Tips for Achieving Balance in Your Daily Life

Balance

Balance as it pertains to our everyday lives can sometimes feel elusive. The ancient healing science of Ayurveda is rooted in the idea that achieving balance between the energies of the mind, body, and soul is the key to a long life. Balance is one of the core pillars of the Avya brand. We strive to incorporate it into our products through our exclusive blend of botanicals, peony, turmeric, and neem to nourish and restore the mind, body, and spirit.  We understand that achieving balance looks and feels different for every individual. With that in mind, we’d like to share some of our favorite ways to find balance in daily life.

MIND: Mindfulness

Have you ever had trouble focusing or found yourself thinking thoughts that had a negative effect on how you felt physically? The mind is an incredibly powerful tool and energetic force and having the ability to tame our thoughts can impact the way we maneuver our day-to-day lives and accomplish our goals both big and small. Ayurveda teaches us that we can train our minds to work for our benefit by implementing practices in our lifestyle that promote mental stability.

Mindfulness Meditation:

The ancient technique of meditation has been used for thousands of years to help center the mind. Mindfulness meditation is used to train the mind to focus on the present and promotes clearer thoughts, less stress and anxiety, and overall well-being. Studies have shown that mindfulness can also keep your brain healthy

AVYA founder, Deepika Vyas, uses mindfulness as an everyday tool to create balance in her daily life. “Focusing on gratitude allows me to enjoy all of the great things I have in my life and to easily let go of the things that are not so great without suffering.” When we think of meditation we often think we need to be barefoot and sitting on the floor with our legs crossed but the great thing about mindfulness meditation is that, while finding a quiet space makes it easier, it can actually be practiced anywhere at anytime:

  1. Find a quiet space. Sit up straight, but don’t tense your body.
  2. Take a deep breath and exhale relaxing your body. Focus on the breathing motion of your chest as you inhale and exhale. Feel the coolness of the air as it enters your body and the warmth as it leaves.
  3. Your mind may begin racing. Allow thoughts to pass without judgement and continue to focus on breathing.
  4. Continue this for 5 to 10minutes. As you continue this practice, you will be able to focus your mind for longer periods of time.

BODY: Self-care

Ayurveda positions the body as the vehicle that allows the soul energy to experience the outer physical world. Self-care is not a one-size-fits-all approach and it can mean many different things for different people. Incorporating practices that help you feel good, strong, and healthy can impact your overall wellness.

Diet & Activity:

Self-care Rituals

Self-care practices like having a daily skincare routine also have astounding benefits. It can be as simple as taking five minutes to do something that makes you feel peaceful and connected to yourself. Goop notes that rituals can be powerful and that reframing your skincare routine as a daily or nightly ritual can be almost meditative. AVYA creates products that combine ancient ayurvedic botanical ingredients like neem, turmeric and peony extracts that help balance medical-grade actives like retinol and Vitamin C. Using products that make you feel and look your best can have a positive effect on your overall confidence and mental health.

Get Enough Rest

Getting enough rest helps restore your body physically and mentally. It is important to take time to disconnect from technology and allow your body to heal on a cellular level. Getting enough sleep is an important part of self-care. While it’s sometimes easier said than done, you should try to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night for most healthy adults according to HelpGuide.

SOUL: Inner Connection

Soul practices should be tailored to the individual. A wonderful aspect of Ayurveda is that it is a science that can be applied to any lifestyle or belief system. Ayurveda promotes the connection to the inner self. As stated in Psychology Today, “Once you connect with your inner self, you can bring a sense of peace and healing to yourself or others in your life.”

Realizing that your soul energy is infinite can also help you connect with your inner self and improve your connection with your loved ones.

Journaling

Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper where you can gain some perspective on exactly what’s going on in your mind and heart. For some people, this can feel like a silly process, but there are many benefits to journaling including stress reduction, increased creativity, increased mental clarity, and an enhanced sense of well-being according to PositivePsychology.com. If you don’t know where to start, Thought Catalog has compiled a list of 50 journaling prompts to help you organize your thoughts.
