4 Reasons to Include Camphor In Your Skin Care Routine

Learn about the benefits and uses of camphor and why should make it a part of your face routine

Every few months, new ingredients trend in skin care with the promise that they will magically change and improve your daily face routine. With so many different ingredient options, it can be tough to sort through the never ending sea of trends to figure out what will really work for your skin.

One of the great things about Ayurveda is that it is a science that has been practiced for thousands of years. Recipes for remedies have been handed down throughout generations - that’s a lot of trial and error which means that Ayurvedic practitioners have a really good understanding of what ingredients work for certain issues. When it comes to skin, everyone’s skin will react differently to certain ingredients so we wanted to give you a run-down of the newest trend in skincare: Camphor

What is Camphor?

Camphor, also known as Cinnamomum camphora, is a terpene that is commonly used in cosmetics, lotions, creams, cleansers and balms. Camphor oil is extracted from the wood of camphor trees and is processed by steam distillation. Only older camphor trees can produce the active component from which camphor oil is produced.

According to Ayurveda, camphor contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, anti-anxiety, and sedative properties.
