How to Get and Keep Your Summer Glow the Healthy Way

Learn 3 healthy ways to extend your summer tan

Having a healthy glow all year round is a goal for many of us and getting enough sunshine is a vital part of overall health and having healthy skin. Still, we know that overexposure to sunlight can also lead to skin damage and premature aging. So how can you get a healthy tan that lasts longer than a few days? We’ve got some tips for you

1. Be sure to keep your skin moisturized

Exfoliation and moisturizing should be part of your skin care routine. You want to exfoliate your body and face a couple times per week to make sure you’re getting rid of dead skin cells so that your skin can regenerate and soak up the benefits of the products you’re applying. Moisturizing your skin preps it for your tan to last whether you’re getting a natural or faux tan. Us heavier creams, moisturizing cleansers, and body butters that lock in moisture.

    2. Always wear sunscreen even if you’re trying to tan

One question that a lot of people ask is, “Can I get a tan while wearing sunscreen?”  The answer is YES. While sunscreens block our harmful UV rays and prevent damage from free radicals, they do not prevent your skin from actually tanning. Even when you’re looking to get a natural tan, be sure to wear an SPF40 or higher and reapply at least every two hours.

    3. Shower with lukewarm or cool water to keep skin healthy

Believe it or not, showers can dry out your skin. While hot showers can be extremely relaxing, they can also strip your skin of natural oils, leading to dry and flaky skin. If you’re hoping to keep your glowing tan longer than just a few days, keeping your skin hydrated is super important.
